Masquerade Theatre, Inc. has been producing theatrical productions for 16 years including musicals, comedies, dramas, children's plays, workshops, and concerts. Our formal season begins each spring with a major musical production followed by three additional shows to complete a four production season. We also provide other workshops, concert, etc. during the year.
Masquerade Theatre has already presented many successful productions including “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” The production of “Joseph” was one of our most aggressive and successful show with 11 wonderful performances shown to over 4,000 folks from our area. Immediately following “Joseph,” our children’s theatre opened with six fun shows of the classic “Charlotte’s Web.” Last fall, Peter Pan flew for the first time over Union City through eight exciting performances of “Peter Pan.” And opening on June 9th, “Nunsense” comes to the Capitol for eight performances of this funny and heartwarming musical production.
All of our productions cover a range of audience appeal and a variety of potential participation from our area. In "Joseph” for example, we had 42 children on stage to augment the 30 adults. “Charlotte’s Web" had a double cast of over 80 young people. Recently we had the good fortune to have the talents of Valli Kugler-Kelly (Miss Tennessee 2002) co-starring in our sold-out production of "Grease."
Last year we had sell-out productions of "Annie" and "High School Musical." This summer we had our second Children's Summer Camp with 55 students who presented "Willy Wonka Jr." We are currently producing the Northwest Tennessee premiere of "Firefly Summer", an adaptation of R.C. Forrester's book and are in rehearsal for the beloved classic, "It's A Wonderful Life."
It is our continued goal to bring to Northwest Tennessee a quality art form through the medium of live stage performance. Our plays are open to anyone who is willing to audition and we encourage folks from all around our area to join our cast and crew.
Fortunately, we have the historic Capitol Theatre to call our home. The Capitol is on the National Register of Historic places and is truly a treasure. Through a local grant, our theatre received funds to install a counterweight fly system which has greatly enhanced our ability to bring quality productions to the stage.
